Connect AI tools (MCP)

Search FDA and regulatory sources and ask Assyro cited research questions from Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor through the Assyro MCP server.

Preview: mcp.assyro.com is not serving production traffic yet. The setup below follows the server as built and may change before launch.

Assyro's MCP server lets an AI tool search the regulatory and FDA sources Assyro holds and ask Assyro research questions, answered with citations. The server is https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP). You sign in with your Assyro Intelligence account, or use an API key.

Quick start

Install in one click, or paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any agent: it adds the server and tells you how to sign in.

Paste into your agent
Connect me to Assyro's MCP server, https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, sign-in with OAuth).
- Claude Code: run `claude mcp add --transport http assyro https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp`, then tell me to run /mcp and choose Authenticate.
- Codex: add [mcp_servers.assyro] with url = "https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp" to ~/.codex/config.toml, then run `codex mcp login assyro`.
- Cursor: add "assyro": { "url": "https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp" } under mcpServers in ~/.cursor/mcp.json, then tell me to choose Connect in Cursor Settings, MCP.
- If I give you an API key instead, send it as the header "Authorization: Bearer <key>"; never write the key into a file I commit.
Then read https://www.assyro.com/docs/llms.txt for the tools (search, get_record, ask_assyro, list_workspaces) and use them to answer my regulatory questions with citations.

Claude

  1. Open Connectors

    In Claude (web or desktop), open Settings, then Connectors.

  2. Add a custom connector

    Choose Add custom connector, name it Assyro and paste the server URL.

    Server URL
    https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp
  3. Sign in

    Choose Connect and sign in to Assyro. Pick the workspace if you belong to several.

ChatGPT

  1. Turn on developer mode

    In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, and turn on Developer mode under Advanced.

  2. Create the connector

    Choose Create, name it Assyro, paste the server URL and choose OAuth.

    Server URL
    https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp
  3. Sign in

    Sign in to Assyro when ChatGPT asks.

Claude Code

  1. Add the server

    Terminal
    claude mcp add --transport http assyro https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp
  2. Sign in

    Run /mcp in Claude Code, choose assyro, then Authenticate.

Codex

  1. Add the server

    Add it to ~/.codex/config.toml.

    ~/.codex/config.toml
    [mcp_servers.assyro]
    url = "https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp"
  2. Sign in

    Terminal
    codex mcp login assyro

Cursor

  1. Or add it by hand

    Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json in a project.

    ~/.cursor/mcp.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "assyro": {
          "url": "https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. Sign in

    Open Cursor Settings, MCP, and choose Connect beside assyro.

VS Code

  1. Or add it from the terminal

    Terminal
    code --add-mcp '{"name":"assyro","type":"http","url":"https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp"}'
  2. Sign in

    Run MCP: List Servers, choose assyro, then Start. VS Code opens the Assyro sign-in.

API keys

  1. Create a key

    In Assyro Intelligence, open Settings, API keys, and choose Create key. Its secret is shown once.

  2. Keep it in your environment

    Set ASSYRO_API_KEY in your shell or secret manager; never commit it.

  3. Send it as a bearer token

    Use the variant for your tool below.

The key acts as you, in the workspace it was created in, and stops working when it is revoked or you leave that workspace.

Use an API key
claude mcp add --transport http assyro https://mcp.assyro.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $ASSYRO_API_KEY"

Tools

The four tools the server offers
ToolPermissionWhat it does
searchdata:readSearches one source (Orange Book, openFDA, ClinicalTrials.gov, EUR-Lex and the others on Sources) with that source's own parameters.
get_recorddata:readReads one record from a source, with its text where the source has it.
ask_assyroresearchAsks Assyro a research question and returns a cited answer. Each question uses your workspace's research credits, exactly as in the app.
list_workspacesdata:readLists the workspaces you can use. With one, it is used automatically; with several, pass workspace to ask_assyro.

Search results are concise by default; pass response_format: "detailed" for every field. Searching and reading sources is free.

Errors

What the server answers when it cannot run a call
ResponseMeaning and fix
401 with WWW-AuthenticateNo credential, or one that is expired, revoked or for another server. Sign in again or create a new key.
403 insufficient_scopeThe credential lacks the permission the tool needs, named in the response. Create a key with that permission or reconnect.
403 no_intelThe workspace does not have Assyro Intelligence.
Tool errorThe call ran but could not answer: an unknown source or parameter (the message lists the valid ones), a workspace to choose, no research credits left, or an answer Assyro could not verify against its sources.
